Antarctica Honeymoon Options: Jan 5 – Feb 20, 2027, from Boston, under $30,000 for two
Double-bed update (Oct 13, 2026) — a real double/queen/king (or beds made up as one) is a must for us, so the shortlist changed:
- New pick: HX Roald Amundsen, Jan 29 – Feb 9 — Polar Outside cabin, “Double bed (optional twin)” made up as one double by default; $10,068 pp → ≈ $24,000 all-in, home Feb 10. Stabilized, but 490 guests.
- New option: Swan Hellenic SH Vega, Jan 22 – Feb 2 (11 nights) — 152 guests, 2022 ship with extra-large stabilizers, queen bed in every cabin; Oceanview $12,550 pp (confirm) → ≈ $29,100 all-in; drinks, gratuities and Wi-Fi included.
- Ocean Nova Explorer Double (fixed double, 4 cabins, 10 m², no stabilizers) ≈ $29,150. MV Ushuaia cabin #640 (fixed double, book by number, no stabilizers) ≈ $26,800.
- Terra Nova: the Superior cabin is twin-only; the double-bed Deluxe ($12,510 pp) makes it ≈ $30,900 — over the cap. Plancius Twin Window is twin-only (double-bed Superior sold out).
Review corrections (Astra critique, Oct 13, 2026) — read these first; they supersede figures below where they conflict.
- Decide on seasickness first. Every option that fits the cap sails the Drake (~2 days each way). Do a clinician-guided medication trial before paying. If the partner vomits despite medication, choose a fly-both-ways trip (over budget) or a different honeymoon (safari).
- Terra Nova (Option 1): the 2.5% card fee makes it ≈ $29,198 (≈ $800 spare); cancellation cover would break the cap; the double-bed Deluxe is over the cap. “98 guests” is an average, not a cap — ask for this sailing’s maximum. Provisional IAATO membership is verified, but no insolvency bond was found; the contract requires full payment now with no refunds within 120 days. Ask for current survey/stabilizer status (the ship had a 2012 grounding).
- HX (Option 2): camping ($505 pp), kayaking ($229) and snowshoeing ($91) are available as paid, weather-dependent add-ons; gratuities included. The $8,688 headline vs $10,759 on the departure page needs reconciling. Feb 19 disembarkation is too tight for a hard Feb 20 return — ask for Jan 29–Feb 9.
- Ocean Nova (Option 3): the $9,446 sale price is a 4-berth shared cabin; private Twin/Double is $11,666 pp (already discounted). Add kayaking ($700 for two), drop the included hotel night → ≈ $29,154.
- MV Ushuaia: double-bed cabin #640 is verified to exist, not that it’s free.
- Fly-the-Drake: no in-window private-cabin offer under $30k found (Quark Feb 11–18 from $23,126 pp; Aurora fly/sail Jan 25–Feb 5 $20,906 pp; A21 Jan from $18,995 pp). Ask agents for ≤ $12k pp with a deadline. Flying isn’t a cure — flights can be delayed and the Bransfield Strait can be rough.
- Other: no Argentina reciprocity fee for US passports; budget EZE↔AEP transfers and 2 pre-embarkation nights where possible; mid-Feb daylight is ~16 h, not 18–20.
Researched Oct 13, 2026 using live operator booking pages (Antarctica21, Terra Nova Expeditions, Antarpply, Polar Latitudes/Chimu, Oceanwide, Aurora, Quark, Lindblad, Poseidon, Swan Hellenic, HX), agency inventories (AntarcticaCruises.com, Swoop, Freestyle Adventure Travel), Google Flights, Tripadvisor, Cruise Critic and Swoop reviews. Prices are per person (pp) in USD for twin/double occupancy unless noted. They are as shown on that date and will change. Hotel, insurance, tips and meal lines are labeled estimates.
TL;DR
The main finding: you can’t fly over the Drake in Jan–Feb 2027 for under $30k. Every fly-both-ways air-cruise in the window costs about $18,995 pp or more. That’s Antarctica21, Lindblad and Quark (A21 live list, Lindblad, Quark). That puts you at about $41.5k all-in. The premium small ships with X-BOW hulls are also out of reach: Aurora’s Greg Mortimer, Sylvia Earle and Douglas Mawson, plus Quark’s Ocean Explorer, all start at $15,976 pp or more in the window. Under the cap, you choose between a stabilized older small ship and a big modern stabilized ship.
| Rank | Option | Dates (door-to-door) | Drake | All-in for 2 | Margin | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 🏆 Best overall (and in-cap adventure) | Terra Nova Adventurer: Classic Antarctica, Superior cabin | Jan 14 – Jan 28 (cruise Jan 16–25) | Sail | $28,613 | +$1,387 | 98 guests, so everyone lands at once. Kayaking, camping, snowshoeing and polar plunge are all included. Retractable stabilizers. A low midship cabin on deck 3 is best for the queasy partner. |
| 2 🌊 Seasickness-first / 💰 best value | HX MS Roald Amundsen: Highlights of Antarctica | Feb 7 – Feb 20 (cruise Feb 8–19) | Sail (big modern ship) | $24,137 (≈$21.2k with Freestyle’s $8,688 deal) | +$5,863 | A 2019 hybrid at 20,889 GT, the most stable hull you can afford. Includes the Buenos Aires hotel and charter flights to and from Ushuaia. Downside: 500 guests and rotated landings. Margin left for a balcony or a Patagonia pre-trip. |
| 3 💑 Most intimate in-cap | Ocean Nova: Antarctic Peninsula Explorer’s Expedition (Polar Latitudes/Chimu) | Jan 24 – Feb 8 (trip Jan 26–Feb 5, embark Jan 27) | Sail | $28,654 (≈$24.2k at the promo floor) | +$1,346 | 72 guests. Chimu’s 25%-off sale ends Oct 31. Late-January timing gets you chicks plus building whale numbers. No stabilizers. |
| 4 💵 Budget small-ship | MV Ushuaia: Classic Antarctica (Antarpply), Standard Plus | Jan 16 – Jan 31 (cruise Jan 18–28) | Sail | $26,832 | +$3,168 | 90 guests. Fully transparent live prices with taxes included. Ask for cabin 640, the only Standard Plus with a double bed. No stabilizers, no kayaking or camping. |
| 5 ✈️ Fly-the-Drake (over cap) | Antarctica21 Magellan Explorer: Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise | Feb 1 – Feb 11 (air-cruise Feb 3–10) | Fly both ways | $41,514 | –$11,514 | The real seasickness cure: a 2-hour flight instead of about 4 Drake days. Boutique ship of up to 88 guests, mostly balcony cabins. Only works if you can stretch the budget. |
| 6 🧗 Ultimate adventure (over cap) | Oceanwide Plancius: Antarctica Basecamp | Jan 6 – Jan 22 (cruise Jan 8–20) | Sail | $35,087 | –$5,087 | Camping, kayaking, snowshoeing, mountaineering and photo workshop all included over 12 nights. Last berths. Old 1976 hull without fin stabilizers, so a poor fit for the queasy partner. |
Recommendation: Book Option 1 (Terra Nova Adventurer, Jan 16–25, Superior cabin on deck 3, midship). It’s the only in-cap trip with all four of: ≤100 guests so everyone lands together, stabilizers, every adventure activity included, and peak-chick timing.
If the seasick partner has ever been badly ill on boats (vomiting despite meds), choose Option 2 (HX Roald Amundsen) instead. Use its ~$5.9–8.8k margin to add El Calafate/Perito Moreno before the cruise, and maybe a balcony.
Book Ocean Nova by Oct 31 only if you want the smallest ship and can accept the most motion.
1. When to go: January vs. early/mid-February
- January: Penguin chicks hatch and are fed in the colonies. These are the “fluffy chick” weeks. It’s the warmest month, with the longest light (roughly 20+ hours on the Peninsula) and the most landing options. Whales are building but not yet at peak. Sources: Swoop: best time to travel, Antarctica Tourism: January.
- February: Whale numbers peak, especially humpbacks and minkes feeding on krill. Chicks are older, molting and starting to fledge, so the colonies are messier and smellier. Sea ice is at its minimum, which opens more southerly routes (the Antarctic Circle and the Weddell Sea). Days are still about 18–20 hours.
- Sweet spot for you: Jan 16 – Feb 10. All three in-cap small-ship picks sail in that band.
Peninsula only vs. Falklands and South Georgia
South Georgia is the bucket-list king-penguin trip, but it takes 18–21 days and costs more than your whole budget.
| Departure | Price pp (from) | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Oceanwide Hondius, Jan 16 – Feb 3 | $15,600 (AntarcticaCruises) | ≈$31k cruise alone for two |
| Poseidon Sea Spirit, Jan 7–27 | $21,895 (Poseidon) | Over budget |
| Polar Latitudes Discoverer, Jan 9–28 | $26,261 (PL rates) | Over budget |
| Ocean Victory, Jan 16 – Feb 4 | $33,495 (PL rates) | Over budget |
No South Georgia option fits $30k all-in. Stick to the Peninsula.
The IAATO landing rule, corrected
The rule is 100 people ashore at one site at a time (guides are not counted). Ships with more than 500 guests may not land at all. Sources: IAATO, IAATO visitor guidelines.
What that means in practice:
- ≤100 guests means everyone lands at once. That covers Terra Nova (98), MV Ushuaia (90), Ocean Nova (72) and Magellan Explorer (88 on air-cruises).
- 101–200 guests (Plancius at 108, the Aurora ships at 126–154) means landings in shifts, alternating with Zodiac cruises.
- HX at 500 runs rotations and usually gets fewer shore minutes per guest.
2. Seasickness: what matters and what to do
The Drake. You get about 2 days each way, roughly 48 hours a side. It can be “Drake Lake” (1–2 m swell) or “Drake Shake” (5–8 m+). Nobody can forecast your crossing months ahead. Stabilizers damp roll, not pitch. Hull length and weight matter as much as the stabilizers.
| Ship | Motion profile | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Magellan Explorer (fly) | Best: no Drake at all, about 2 h flight Punta Arenas ⇄ King George Island; only the sheltered Peninsula/Bransfield waters | A21 |
| HX Roald Amundsen | 140 m, 20,889 GT, 2019, stabilized | Cruise Critic |
| Terra Nova Adventurer | ~105 m ex-ferry, retractable stabilizers per the operator (older G Expedition reviews disagree on fins, so ask) | Terra Nova, Cruise Critic G Expedition |
| Seaventure (not ranked) | Retractable fin stabilizers | AntarcticaCruises |
| Plancius | 89 m, keel/hull stabilization only, no fins | specs |
| MV Ushuaia | 84 m, no stabilizers | Tripadvisor trip report, sea2peak |
| Ocean Nova | 73 m, no stabilizers, lively in a swell | Polar Quest, Cruise Critic thread |
X-BOW ships (Aurora’s Greg Mortimer, Sylvia Earle and Douglas Mawson, and Quark’s Ocean Explorer) pitch more gently. In the window they all start at $15,976–$29,826 pp (Aurora calendar, Quark), so they’re over budget.
Practical plan for the seasick partner (any sailing option)
- Get a scopolamine patch prescription now and trial it at home for side effects (dry mouth, blurred vision, drowsiness). Apply it behind the ear at least 4 hours before sailing out of the Beagle Channel. Each patch lasts 72 hours. Avoid it with angle-closure glaucoma. Sources: CDC Yellow Book: motion sickness, FDA label.
- Cabin choice: pick a low deck, midship cabin. On Terra Nova, the Superior cabins on deck 3 are better than the Deluxe cabins on deck 4 for motion.
- On board: eat light and dry, stay horizontal in the worst swells, and look at the horizon. Ships’ doctors carry injectable antiemetics.
- If they have ever been sick on big-water ferries or whale-watch boats despite meds, rank HX (#2) or the fly-cruise stretch (#5) above the small ships.
3. Diving and snorkeling: the honest answer
- Polar scuba isn’t open to you this trip. Oceanwide, which runs the main Antarctic dive program, requires an internationally recognized cert, at least 30 logged cold-water drysuit dives, and a recent medical. You also bring your own full drysuit kit, there are no in-water guides, and there’s no chamber on board (Oceanwide FAQ). You have PADI AOW with about 20 warm-water dives and no drysuit specialty, so you don’t qualify.
- Polar snorkeling: Aurora sells it (voyage calendar). Aurora’s “Antarctica Active” voyages bundle snorkeling with every activity, but they start around $15.1k pp and don’t sail in your window at that price. None of the in-cap options offer snorkeling or diving.
- If polar diving is a future goal: do a PADI Dry Suit specialty and log New England cold-water dives (Cape Ann, Rockport). That builds toward Oceanwide’s 30-dive drysuit requirement for a later trip.
4. The options in detail
Option 1: 🏆 Terra Nova Adventurer, “Classic Antarctica”, Jan 16–25, 2027 (Best overall, in-cap adventure)
Ship and operator
| Operator | Terra Nova Expeditions, a new brand founded by Greg Carter (co-founder of Chimu Adventures, ex-CCO of Albatros) |
| Ship history | Ex-G Expedition / MS Expedition. Danish-built 1972 ferry Kattegat, rebuilt as an expedition ship in 2008. 600+ polar voyages. |
| Guests | 98 average (capacity ~134–138). 63 cabins, 76 crew, 14 Zodiacs. |
| Ice class / handling | 1B, retractable stabilizers, bow thruster |
| Facilities | Sauna, outdoor jacuzzi, gym, library |
| Ship swap | Swapped in Aug 2026 because the planned St. Helena couldn’t leave the Persian Gulf. Contracted for 3 seasons. |

Live prices, Jan 16–25 (rates page)
| Cabin | Size / beds / deck | pp | For 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Superior (recommended) | 14 m², two twin beds, window, deck 3 (lower) | $11,690 | $23,380 |
| Deluxe | 17 m², double or twin, large windows, deck 4 | $12,510 | $25,020 |
| Premium Suite | ~30 m², double or twin, separate lounge, jet shower, deck 4 (only 4 suites) | $13,790 | $27,580 |
- No balconies on this ship.
- Discovery quad and triple cabins ($9,290 / $9,920) are shared cabins, so they don’t suit a honeymoon.
- Jan 16–25 shows no “Limited” flag on Superior/Deluxe. The Jan 6 and Jan 25 departures flag Superior as LIMITED.
Included
- Shipboard accommodation, meals, landings and Zodiac cruises.
- Open-air camping, kayaking, snowshoeing, polar plunge and photography workshop. Jan 16 lists “5 activities”. Camping is first-come, first-served and weather-dependent.
Optional extras
- Day Sailing aboard the 6-guest Icebird yacht: $1,295 pp, 8 per outing, paid in full at booking.
- 2.5% card fee.
Insurance requirement: mandatory with ≥$250k evacuation (insurance page).
Reviews. The operator has no history yet, so these are for the ship under G Adventures.
- Cruise Critic editor rating 4.0/5 with 17 member reviews (link).
- Tripadvisor “G Expedition”: 17 reviews (link).
- Recurring praise: expedition team, efficient Zodiac/mudroom operations, “big enough for the Drake, small enough to be close-knit,” camaraderie.
- Recurring complaints: dated décor, small standard cabins, some rolling.
- Terra Nova says it renewed the cabins, bar and lounge and added the sauna and jacuzzi.

| BOS⇄EZE, American via MIA/JFK, Jan 14→27 (live Google Flights, 2 adults) | 1,923 |
| AEP⇄USH, Aerolíneas, Jan 15 4:05 pm / Jan 25 (live) | 630 |
| Hotels: Ushuaia 1 night + Buenos Aires 2 nights (est. ~$230 + ~$180/night) | 590 |
| Taxis/transfers (EZE↔AEP, airports) (est.) | 150 |
| Medical + evacuation insurance, ≥$250k evac, 2 people (est.) | 450 |
| Crew tips ($18 pp/night × 9 × 2; norm is $15–25 pp/day, guide) | 330 |
| Gear: waterproof pants, liners, dry bag (est.) | 250 |
| Meals off-ship + onboard bar/Wi-Fi (est.) | 610 |
| Contingency | 300 |
| Total | $28,613 |
| Margin under $30k | +$1,387 |
Ways to adjust the total:
- Deluxe with a double bed adds $1,640, for $30,253 (–$253). That works if you take the $380 red-eye AEP flight, trim the contingency, or get an agent rebate or price match (Swoop and Freestyle advertise price-matching).
- Trip-cancellation cover (about 6% of prepaid, per Squaremouth data) adds about $1,500, which takes you to about $30.1k.
Seasickness: 3/5. Stabilizers and a mid-size hull, but it’s an older ferry design. Use the Superior cabins on deck 3, midship.
Urgency: high. It’s a debut season with peak dates.
- Pay by credit card and insure with supplier-default cover.
- Get written confirmation that the camping and kayaking allocation is included for both of you.
Option 2: 🌊 HX MS Roald Amundsen, “Highlights of Antarctica”, Feb 8–19, 2027 (Seasickness-first, best value)
Ship. HX Expeditions (ex-Hurtigruten).
- Built 2019, hybrid battery-diesel, Polar Class 6, 140 m, 20,889 GT, stabilized.
- Capacity 530, capped at 500 in Antarctica. 265 cabins, all outside, about half with balconies.
- Science Center, sauna, infinity pool and hot tubs.
Sources: Cruise Critic, HX.
Live price and inclusions
- Freestyle Adventure Travel lists “from $8,688 pp in a twin cabin — Highlights of Antarctica, MS Roald Amundsen, Feb 2027” (Freestyle deals).
- AntarcticaCruises.com lists Feb 8–19 from $10,141 pp (search).
- HX has a sitewide extra 5% off cabins / 10% off suites “130th Anniversary” sale on now (HX).
- The fare includes a pre-cruise Buenos Aires hotel night, charter flights BA⇄Ushuaia, transfers, a loaned expedition jacket and boots, Wi-Fi, and lectures. Cruise Critic says house wine and beer with meals and gratuities are included; verify gratuities at booking. Sources: inclusions summary, Cruise Critic.
- Cabin: Polar Outside twin, configurable as a double on most layouts (confirm). Balcony categories are within the margin, so get a quote.
Activities
- Included: landings and Zodiac cruises (rotations under the 100-ashore rule), polar plunge, Science Center.
- Kayaking is a paid add-on (several hundred USD) and sells out.
- No camping is advertised.
Reviews. Cruise Critic editor rating 4.5/5 with 21 member reviews (link).
- Praise: Scandinavian design, comfort, science programming, smooth ride.
- Complaints: crowds, limited and rotated shore time (often about 1 landing per guest per day), kayaking scarcity, less intimacy.

| Sun Feb 7 | BOS 5:00 pm on Delta/LATAM via JFK. Arrive EZE Mon 10:55 am. |
| Mon Feb 8 | HX hotel in Buenos Aires (included). Free afternoon in Recoleta and Palermo. |
| Tue Feb 9 | HX charter to Ushuaia. Embark. |
| Feb 10–11 | Drake southbound. |
| Feb 12–16 | Peninsula landings and Zodiac cruises. Peak whale season; chicks are older. |
| Feb 17–18 | Drake northbound. |
| Fri Feb 19 | Disembark, HX charter to Buenos Aires, then EZE evening flight. |
| Sat Feb 20 | Arrive BOS, the last day of your window. Zero slack for delays. |
Flights: Google Flights.
Safer alternative: the Jan 29 – Feb 9 departure (from $10,068 pp on AntarcticaCruises) leaves 10 days of buffer and room for Patagonia.
Best use of the margin: go out early, around Feb 2. Spend 3 nights in El Calafate for Perito Moreno glacier (AEP⇄FTE) and 2 nights in Buenos Aires, roughly +$2,000 for two (estimate). If the Feb 2 start leaves too little slack in Patagonia, shift to the Jan 29 sailing.
All-in budget for two (conservative $10,141 pp)
| Item | USD |
|---|---|
| Cruise, 2 × $10,141 (includes BA hotel night + BA⇄USH charter) | 20,282 |
| BOS⇄EZE, Delta/LATAM, Feb 7→19 (live) | 2,175 |

| Gear (jacket and boots loaned) | 150 |
| Meals/misc | 400 |
| Contingency | 300 |
| Total | $24,137 |
| Margin | +$5,863 |
At Freestyle’s $8,688 pp twin deal, the total is ≈$21,231 (+$8,769). Cancellation cover (about +$1,300) and an El Calafate pre-trip (about +$2,000) both still fit.
Seasickness: 4/5. This is the most stable hull you can afford.
Urgency: medium. It’s a large inventory, but deal fares are capacity-controlled.
Option 3: 💑 Ocean Nova, “Antarctic Peninsula: An Explorer’s Expedition”, Jan 26 – Feb 5, 2027 (Most intimate in-cap)
Ship and operator
- Ocean Nova: built 1992, 73 m, ice-strengthened, 72 guests max, all outside cabins.
- It was Antarctica21’s air-cruise workhorse for years.
- No stabilizers (AntarcticaCruises, Polar Quest).
- Operated by the Polar Latitudes Expeditions group, the Albatros + Polar Latitudes merger with Chimu as sister company (Cruise Industry News). Sold through Chimu Adventures.
Live price and promo
- Chimu: “Save up to 25% on 2026/27 departures — valid until 31 October 2026”. Jan 26 – Feb 5 shows from US$9,446 pp (Chimu). The cabin category behind that price isn’t stated and is likely the lowest one.
- AntarcticaCruises.com lists this departure at $11,666–$12,829 pp (ship page). The budget below uses $11,666 pp to be safe.
- Cabin types: Classic Twin, Twin, Comfort Twin, Explorer Twin, and Explorer Double (1 lower double bed plus 2 upper berths, private use as a couple).
- Ask Chimu for an Explorer Double or Comfort Twin at the promo rate.
Activities
- Daily landings and Zodiac cruises, all 72 guests ashore together, citizen science (NASA GLOBE).
- “Discover Kayaking” is $350 pp, paid onboard, per Polar Latitudes’ Ocean Nova listings (PL rates).
- No camping or snorkeling.
Reviews
- Swoop: 178 reviews for Ocean Nova (link). Polar Latitudes guest quotes praise the forward observation lounge and food (PL).
- Cruise Critic forum: staff are excellent, cabins are small, and the Drake can be rough without stabilizers (thread).

Option 5: ✈️ Antarctica21 Magellan Explorer, Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise, Feb 3–10, 2027 (Fly the Drake, OVER CAP)
Ship. Magellan Explorer: built 2019 for A21’s air-cruises, PC6, stabilized.

Sources: A21 ship, Freestyle ship notes.
Live prices (A21 booking engine)
- Magellan Explorer: from $18,995 pp for Jan 14, 19, 24 and 29 and Feb 3 and 8.
- Newer Magellan Discoverer: from $22,995.
- AntarcticaCruises.com shows the lowest currently available category at $23,495–$25,495 on most of these dates, which suggests the porthole cabins are nearly sold (search). Confirm availability.
Included: Punta Arenas hotel and transfers, round-trip Punta Arenas ⇄ King George Island flights, all meals and wine, landings, and loaned boots and parka.
Add-ons: sea kayaking (max 20 per voyage, about $895–950 pp; verify) and hiking/snowshoeing (A21 season page).

6. Live promotions found (Oct 13, 2026)
- Chimu Adventures: up to 25% off 2026/27 Ocean Nova departures, book by Oct 31, 2026 (link).
- HX: extra 5% off cabins / 10% off suites, anniversary sale (link).
- Freestyle (Ushuaia-based agent, Deloqui 845):
- Roald Amundsen Feb 2027 from $8,688 twin.
- MV Ushuaia Jan 2027 from $9,390 twin.
- Terra Nova Adventurer Jan 2027 from $9,290 (that price is a quad cabin).
- They also run a last-minute mailing list (link).
- Aurora: “Stop Saying Someday”, up to 35% on select voyages. Greg Mortimer Feb 9–19 is 15% off at $15,976 pp, still over cap (link). The “Companion travels free” offer applies only to 2027 Europe small-ship cruises, not Antarctica (link).
- Lindblad: “Up to $2,000 air credit” on select fly-cruises (for example, Orion Feb 6–14 at $19,700). Book by Nov 4 (link).
- Oceanwide: “Up to $X off” on several departures, though none of them both fit the window and are discounted. Basecamp Jan 8 shows “Last berths” with no discount (link).
- Not found: any live “free flights”, “2-for-1” or “single supplement waived” offer for in-window Antarctica sailings.
- Walk-in “last-minute in Ushuaia” deals: these exist, but peak-January inventory is thin, so it isn’t a sound plan for fixed honeymoon dates.
7. Considered and rejected
| Option | Why rejected |
|---|---|
| Aurora Greg Mortimer / Sylvia Earle / Douglas Mawson (X-BOW, 126–154 guests) | Best-in-class small expedition ships with snorkeling, kayaking and camping, but Jan–Feb in-window fares run $15,976–$27,895 pp, ≈$37.5k+ all-in (calendar). |
| Quark Ocean Explorer / Ultramarine / World Voyager | Jan 5–15 Ocean Explorer $29,826. Ultramarine Jan 6–17 $22,951 (199 guests, helicopters). World Voyager Jan 26 – Feb 5 $18,031 (Quark). |
| Lindblad NG Explorer / Orion fly-cruises | $19,300–25,000 pp in the window. |
| Poseidon Sea Spirit (114, all-suite) | Feb 8–19 sold out. Jan 26 – Feb 9 Circle trip $15,295 pp, over cap (Poseidon). |
| Swan Hellenic SH Vega / Minerva / Diana (152–192, PC5) | In-window from $15,675–22,825 pp (Swan Hellenic). |
| Ponant (Le Boréal / L’Austral / Lyrial, 244–264) | $17,290–19,180+ pp and large (AntarcticaCruises). |
| Silversea / Seabourn / Scenic / Viking | Luxury and/or large (200+), well over cap. |
| Polar Latitudes Discoverer, Feb 9–20 ($13,496) | Disembarks Feb 20, so you’d be home Feb 21, outside the window. Also ≈$33.5k all-in (PL). |
| Polar Latitudes Ocean Albatros / Ocean Victory | 175–189 guests. In-window Peninsula fares $14,295–20,495; Ocean Albatros Jan 12 is sold out. |
| Seaventure (66° Expeditions), Jan 8–21, Antarctic Circle, 14 days | Worth a quote. Ex-Bremen, 1A Super ice class, fin stabilizers, capped at 139 guests, English-speaking operations reported. But it’s listed only “from $10,236–$18,716 pp” with no cabin breakdown, so the twin price is unverified (AntarcticaCruises, background). |
| Terra Nova Jan 6–16 | You’d have to leave BOS on Jan 4–5 to embark safely, which falls outside the window. |
| Icebird yacht (6 guests) | A sailing yacht across the Drake is the worst possible choice for seasickness. |
| HX Fridtjof Nansen / MS Fram | Same trade-offs as Roald Amundsen. Fram’s in-window trips are 22-day Santiago itineraries. |
| Antarctica21 “Antarctica Express” ($5,995) | November only. |
| Falklands / South Georgia (all operators) | $15.6k–33.5k pp and 18–21 days. See section 1. |
8. Optional Patagonia and Buenos Aires add-ons
- El Calafate / Perito Moreno (from Ushuaia or Buenos Aires on Aerolíneas): 2–3 nights plus a glacier boardwalk or boat tour, roughly $1,200–2,000 for two (estimate). Only Option 2 has room for this without dropping a cabin grade. Option 4 can fit a 2-night version.
- Torres del Paine: natural only with the Punta Arenas fly-cruise (Option 5). Lindblad sells a 5-day pre-extension at $6,690 pp (Lindblad).
- Buenos Aires: every Ushuaia option above already includes 1–2 BA nights on the way home: tango, Recoleta and a parrilla dinner.
9. Booking checklist
- Decide on the seasickness red line this week.
- Severe history: choose HX (Option 2), or stretch about $11.5k for the A21 fly-cruise.
- Otherwise: Terra Nova (Option 1).
- Terra Nova:
- Hold a Superior cabin on deck 3, midship, for Jan 16–25. Ask for the lowest cabin number nearest midships.
- Get in writing: the included activity allocation (camping, kayaking), stabilizer status, refurbishment completion, and financial protection.
- Pay by credit card.
- Ocean Nova: if it’s a contender, get Chimu’s per-category price before Oct 31.
- Insurance: buy a policy with ≥$500k evacuation, above Terra Nova’s $250k minimum. Decide whether to add cancellation cover (about +$1.3–1.6k).
- Scopolamine: get a prescription and do a test run at home in December.
- Flights: ticket BOS⇄EZE separately from the Argentine domestic flights. Allow at least 1 buffer night in Ushuaia before embarkation. The EZE→AEP airport change and Aerolíneas strikes are real risks.
All prices are as displayed Oct 13, 2026. Hotel, insurance, tip, gear and meal lines are estimates, labeled as such.
