| Our pick | Monique, Jan 21–28 (or Integrity / Reina Silvia Voyager in Feb) | Kicheche Valley + Kicheche Bush (Mara conservancies) + Diani, Jan 27 – Feb 9 | HX Roald Amundsen, Jan 29 – Feb 9 (or SH Vega, Jan 22) — only if seasickness is mild |
| All-in for two | ≈ $26,600 | ≈ $25,900 (private vehicle) | ≈ $24,000 (SH Vega ≈ $29,100) |
| Seasickness | Short overnight crossings; catamaran | Best — no long boat days; small-plane hops | Worst — Drake Passage, ~2 days each way |
| Diving | 2 days on Santa Cruz | 2 days on the Diani reef (or Mafia Island) | Not for us: Antarctic diving needs 30+ drysuit dives and is only on over-budget ships (why) |
| Luxury feel | Luxury 16-guest catamaran | Highest — 6-tent camps, private vehicle, honeymoon discounts | Expedition ship; double bed only in specific cabins (HX double, SH Vega queen) |
| Main risk | Monique has no reviews yet | Camp availability; malaria & yellow-fever prep | Rough Drake crossings; 490 guests on HX (landings in shifts) |
Honest read: Galápagos on Monique remains our first choice. For a seasick partner, a safari is the strongest alternative — the most luxurious per dollar and it keeps the dive days. Antarctica fits with a double bed — HX (≈ $24k) or the smaller, all-inclusive SH Vega (≈ $29k) — but every in-budget ship sails the rough Drake Passage both ways.
